This volume brings together neuroscientists, psychiatrists,neurologists, and ethicists to discuss inter–related advances andchallenges emerging in the exciting field of brain stimulation.Discussion focuses on new methodologies that are aimed at bringingdirect measurement of brain activity to control electrical brainstimulation techniques. Such direct electrical stimulationtechniques offer a novel approach to precisely alter circuitmechanisms in the brain and a promise of temporal precision thatmay improve clinically relevant effects. A range of electricalstimulation techniques are discussed, with presentation of bothclinical research and animal models.
