MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK

Main description:

The Education Portfolio in A3 size (16" x 11") shows charts on the Heart and Circulatory Systems and is divided into two sections. The first section provides the student detailed yet easy to understand charts on the Anatomy and function of the Heart and Circulatory system. Chart 1 identifies the major arteries and veins in the body whilst Chart 2 describes how blood is supplied to the head and neck, shoulders, thigh and hepatic portal system. It also shows the Circle of Willis which connects all the blood vessels supplying the brain as well as the main veins of the head and neck. Two views of the heart, anterior and posterior inferior show the blood supply and venous return to and from the heart muscle.Chart 3 shows and describes how the blood flows through the heart and into the different areas of the body. It also illustrates the electrical conduction system and mentions how the electrical impulses in the heart influence the pathway of the blood through the heart as it sends and receives it to and from the body. The 4th Chart looks at 3 major causes of Heart Disease, namely Coronary Artery disease, Valvular disease and faults with the Conductive System.
Blood pressure is dealt with on the 5th Chart which provides essential information on the principles and classification of blood pressure together with recommended follow up criteria depending on the systolic and diastolic readings. The final two Charts relate to exercise and prevention of Coronary Heart Disease and how to monitor the heart during exercise. Risk factors are identified as well as advice is given about how to increase daily physical activity and plan regular exercise sessions in a gym or playing sport. Learning how to monitor your heart during exercise and how the heart rate responds to different intensities of work is clearly set out on the Monitoring Guidelines Chart. This set of 7 Charts provides students following a career in medicine, health and fitness with basic and essential information about the workings of the heart and circulatory system. The uniqueness of this portfolio is the provision of revision sheets which enable the student to test their knowledge and understanding of how the heart and flow of blood through the body functions.
