The Muscle and Skeletal A3 (16" x 11") Education Portfolio provides a unique set of four charts that have detailed information on the major superficial and deep muscles of the body. The action of each muscle is described together with its link to sport and weight training exercises. Also Activities for Daily Living (ADL) are listed on the anterior and posterior muscle charts illustrating how functional anatomy works, making it easier to understand eg Brachioradialis ADL - turning a cork screw.The Anterior and Posterior Muscle Attachment Charts illustrate the skeleton and name the bones and prominences. Unique to these two charts is the identification and explanation of the proximal and distal attachment of each major muscle.Supporting these 4 charts is a series of three charts which describe the structure of striated muscle, how muscle contracts and the types of muscle fibres which influence and are involved in muscle contraction ie fast twitch and slow twitch fibres. Also there is a diagram on this last chart that summarises what happens to the body when you exercise to improve your fitness.As with the other Portfolios the revision sheets provide the student the opportunity to test their knowledge and understanding of the muscular and skeletal system by naming the superficial and deep muscles, and describing their action, as well as giving examples of sports and weight training exercises that are linked to the muscle action.
The muscle attachment charts provide space for naming the skeletal system whilst other pages require a description of the proximal and distal attachments of each muscle.The final two pages ask for the parts of the muscle unit and the myofibrils to be named together with an explanation of what happens during muscle contraction.Another invaluable resource to have when studying the muscular system and its function.
